VOLUNTEERS

Do you want to volunteer at Durmitor Trail?
Durmitor Trail is not just a race — it is a unique mountain experience built on passion, community, and love for nature. Behind every successful edition stands a team of dedicated volunteers who make the event possible.Volunteers play a key role in all phases of the race, supporting both the organization and the runners. Their contribution is essential in creating a safe, well-organized, and memorable experience for everyone involved.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Every year, a dedicated team of volunteers plays a crucial role in making Durmitor Trail a safe, well-organized, and unforgettable mountain race experience.

There are many areas where your help is essential:

Course Management

Course teams are responsible for ensuring the safety and flow of the race on the trails.

  • Sweepers follow the last runners, making sure no one is left behind and assisting participants who may struggle to reach the finish within cut-off times. They also help remove course markings after the race.
  • Forerunners run ahead of the race to check that the course is correctly marked and safe for participants.

Due to the mountain environment and technical terrain, these roles require good physical condition, trail running experience, and strong awareness of safety in nature.

Race Headquarters & Welcome Area

The main race hub is located near Crno Jezero, where volunteers:

  • Welcome participants
  • Assist with bib distribution and race pack collection
  • Provide general support and guidance to runners

This is the central point of the event and the first contact for most participants.

Drop Bag Management

Volunteers manage runners’ personal bags:

  • Collecting and organizing drop bags before the race
  • Transporting and storing them safely
  • Returning them to runners at the finish area

Accuracy and organization are key in this role.

Start Area Management

Volunteers help ensure smooth race starts by:

  • Controlling access to the start zones
  • Assisting with organization of runners
  • Supporting the race briefing and start procedure

Finish Area Management

At the finish line (Crno Jezero), volunteers:

  • Welcome runners as they complete their race
  • Distribute finisher medals
  • Help guide runners through the finish zone and recovery area

Your encouragement at this moment means a lot to every finisher.

Info Point

If you speak foreign languages, you can support communication by:

  • Providing information about the race, routes, and schedule
  • Assisting runners and their supporters
  • Answering general questions about the event

Aid Stations

Aid stations are key points along the course  where runners refuel and recover.

Volunteers assist with:

  • Setting up and organizing stations
  • Distributing food and drinks
  • Monitoring runners’ condition
  • Supporting station captains throughout the race

This is one of the most dynamic and rewarding roles, with direct contact with athletes during the race.
