1. Contract and General Terms and Conditions

By registering for a race, participants accept the Organizer's General Terms and Conditions, which become an integral part of the contract between the participant and the Organizer.

2. Participation Requirements

Participants must possess full awareness of the duration, nature, and specific demands of the race and must be adequately trained and physically prepared to take part in the event.

Prior to the event, participants must have acquired complete autonomy and self-sufficiency in mountain environments and must be capable of independently managing all risks and challenges typically associated with endurance and outdoor activity.

  • Participants must be able to adapt to variable and potentially severe climatic conditions, including wind, low temperatures, fog, rain, and snow.
  • Participants understand and accept the physical and mental strain inherent to this type of challenge, including possible digestive issues, muscular or joint pain, blisters, and minor injuries.
  • Participants acknowledge and accept that the Organizer does not act as a rescue or life-saving service. Participant safety is primarily dependent on each participant’s personal capacity to anticipate, assess, and appropriately respond to foreseeable and unforeseeable difficulties.

3. Age Eligibility

Minimum age requirements are determined by race distance and must be fulfilled on the day of the race.

Participants must be at least 10 years old on race day to participate in the 5 km or 10 km races.

Participants must be at least 16 years old on race day to participate in the 21 km race.

Participants must be at least 18 years old on race day to participate in the 42 km or 65 km races.

Participants under 18 years of age must submit a document signed by a parent or legal guardian expressly allowing them to compete. The document must be submitted to the Organizer before the event.

4. Semi-Autonomy Principle

All races are conducted in semi-autonomy. Participants must be self-sufficient between aid stations in terms of food, hydration, clothing, and safety. This includes carrying all mandatory equipment, ensuring sufficient food and water to reach the next aid station, and being prepared for rapid weather changes.

The Organizer may check required equipment during the race. Missing equipment may result in time penalties or disqualification.

5. Code of Ethics and Compliance

  • Respect the race rules, staff, volunteers, other participants, and local communities.
  • Show sportsmanship and mutual assistance.
  • Preserve the environment and do not litter.
  • Assist fellow runners in difficulty whenever possible.

Failure to comply with these principles may lead to penalties or disqualification.

6. Registration

Registration is available exclusively online via the official Durmitor Trail website. It remains open until the maximum number of participants is reached.

6.1 Fees

Entry fees vary by race and are published on the event website. Fees include: bib number, race t-shirt excluding 5 km and 10 km, goody bag, timing, access to aid stations, sponsor gifts, post-race meal, shuttle bus to the start line for 42 km and 65 km, and finisher medal if finished within the time limit.

6.2 Elite Runners

Durmitor Trail recognizes elite runners as athletes who have achieved a high level of performance according to the ITRA Performance Index, as well as winners of the 2nd edition of the Durmitor Trail. Eligible elite runners may benefit from free registration for any race distance.

To qualify for free registration, elite runners must submit a formal request by email to info@durmitortrail.run no later than 30 May 2026.

7. Refunds, Transfers, and Deferrals

7.1 Bib Number Transfer

Transfer of a bib number to another participant is not permitted under any circumstances.

7.2 Deferrals

Deferral of registration to the following year is permitted only if requested no later than 20 days before race day, in case of injury or medical condition. Requests must be submitted in writing by email to info@durmitortrail.run. No deferrals will be granted after this deadline.

7.3 Injury Policy

Participants unable to take part due to injury may request transfer of registration to the next edition by submitting an email request no later than 20 days before race day, together with valid medical documentation confirming the injury. No monetary refunds shall be granted under any circumstances, including voluntary withdrawal, travel-related issues, or failure to meet deadlines.

7.4 Race Category Transfer

Change of race category is permitted exclusively until 20 days before race day. The participant must submit a written request by email, clearly stating the current race and desired new race category. In case of transfer to a longer distance, the participant must pay the difference in registration fees. No refund is granted for transfer to a shorter distance.

7.5 Pregnancy Policy

If a registered participant becomes pregnant prior to the event, she is entitled, at her discretion, to transfer the paid entry fee to the following year’s edition of the event, without time limitation.

8. Prohibited Actions

  • Participation in any race other than the one for which the participant has registered.
  • Exchange, transfer, or use of a bib number by any person other than the registered participant.
  • Using unauthorized transport during the race.
  • Taking shortcuts or deviating from the marked course.
  • Displaying, exhibiting, or promoting political messages, symbols, images, slogans, or campaign-related materials during the event is prohibited.

9. Organizer Cancellation and Force Majeure

If the event must be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disaster, government restrictions, safety hazards, severe weather, or other force majeure events, the following applies:

  • If the event is canceled due to force majeure more than 30 days before race day, 50% of the entry fee will be refunded.
  • If cancellation occurs within 30 days, or the race is interrupted during the event, no refunds will be issued.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to assess the situation and apply appropriate measures based on incurred costs and safety.

10. Safety and Medical Authority

Medical and first aid teams will be present at designated points along the course and at race headquarters. Aid stations are in contact with the central medical coordination center.

  • A runner in difficulty, or a participant who witnesses another participant in need, must alert the nearest volunteer, aid station, or marshal immediately.
  • The emergency phone number printed on the race bib should be used if direct contact is not possible.
  • If unable to assist directly, a participant should ask another runner for help.
  • In remote mountain areas, assistance may take longer than expected. Each runner remains responsible for their own safety and must carry required emergency equipment.

Any runner requesting or requiring medical intervention, including intravenous drip or immobilization, automatically agrees to be withdrawn from the race. The choice of evacuation method is at the discretion of official medical staff. Costs incurred during evacuation or medical care are the responsibility of the participant.

Official medical personnel and race doctors are authorized to withdraw a runner from the race if deemed medically unfit, invalidate the runner’s bib, and order evacuation or hospitalization if necessary. Failure to comply with medical orders results in immediate disqualification.

11. Elimination and Withdrawal Rules

  • Any participant who misses a cut-off or is deemed unfit by medical staff will be withdrawn.
  • If a runner wishes to continue despite missing a cut-off, they may only do so after surrendering their bib and continuing entirely at their own risk.
  • Cut-offs are enforced without exception.
  • Withdrawal is permitted only at official aid stations or checkpoints, unless due to injury. Any participant who decides to withdraw from the race must immediately report their withdrawal to the nearest control point, aid station, marshal, or race official.
  • This notification is mandatory so the Organizer can confirm the participant’s status and avoid unnecessary search or mountain rescue procedures. Withdrawn runners must have their bib invalidated by race staff before leaving the race course or returning independently.
  • Staff will assist in coordinating return transport to the finish area, but delays are possible depending on conditions and vehicle availability.
  • If a runner withdraws before reaching a checkpoint, they must return to the last checkpoint or wait for the sweep team.

12. Disqualification

Participants may be immediately disqualified and their race bib invalidated for any of the following violations:

  • Failing to pass through a checkpoint.
  • Exceeding the time limit or leaving a checkpoint after the cut-off.
  • Taking shortcuts or deviating from the marked course.
  • Disposing of litter on the course.
  • Refusing to help another participant in difficulty.
  • Insulting, threatening, or behaving aggressively toward staff or volunteers.
  • Endangering the safety of oneself or others.
  • Using unauthorized transportation during the race.
  • Refusing medical examination or intervention by race medics.
  • Refusing inspection of mandatory equipment.
  • Missing two or more items of mandatory equipment.
  • Any proclamation, display, or exhibition of political messages or related images during the event.

Disqualification may occur immediately or retroactively after the race if a violation is discovered.

13. Results Appeals

Any appeal regarding race results must be submitted no later than 23:59 on 12 July 2026. Appeals are accepted exclusively in written form, either submitted in person or sent by email.

All appeals are reviewed and decided by a three-member Appeals Committee composed of the Race Director, Official Race Controller, and Timing System Coordinator. The decision of the Committee is final and binding.

14. Environmental Protection

The race takes place within Durmitor National Park, an area protected by UNESCO. Participants must fully respect the natural environment, including by refraining from littering, picking plants or flowers, and disturbing wildlife.

  • Littering of any kind is strictly prohibited, including gel tubes, paper, organic waste, and plastic packaging.
  • Waste disposal bins are available at each aid station and must be used accordingly.
  • Participants must retain all personal waste and packaging until reaching an aid station with disposal facilities.
  • Runners are encouraged to carry a small bag or pouch for waste storage between stations.
  • Plastic bags for soiled paper are provided with race bibs and must be used for proper collection of paper waste generated due to urgent needs along the course.
  • No disposable dishes, including cutlery, cups, or bowls, are distributed at checkpoints or aid stations to reduce plastic waste.

15. Final Provisions

By registering and participating in any Durmitor Trail race, each runner confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted these rules and regulations.

Participants agree to compete at their own risk and assume full responsibility for their health, safety, and equipment during the event.

The Organizer reserves the right to modify race routes and schedules in case of unforeseen circumstances, amend the rules and content of this document without prior notice, and cancel or postpone the event in full or partially in case of force majeure.

The Organizer is not liable for injuries, losses, or damages sustained during the event, lost or stolen personal belongings, or delays in evacuation or assistance due to terrain or conditions.

The official communication channels, including the website and email, provide all final and binding updates regarding the race.
